A neighbour and friend, Hazel Bell, asked me in autumn 2024 if I would like to take over from her as Editor of the Newsletter of the local u3a. The u3a, short for University of the Third Age, is a nationwide network of learning groups aimed at encouraging older people to share their knowledge, skills and interests in a friendly environment. My local one covers Welwyn Hatfield and its Newsletter is produced three times a year, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. Although not a member I agreed and subsequently joined. I have learned a lot since then about the u3a, all good; it has 900 members who get an enormous amount for a mere £20 pa.
